[GUIDE] Becoming a staff member

Hey all!
As staff applications are open I wanted to create this short guide on how you can have your best shot at becoming a staff member!

1) Applying for the right reason
Before you apply you should ask yourself why you're applying. Ask yourself, if being a staff member meant you had the same role but you didn't get the [Helper] tag, would you still apply? Being a staff member is undoubtably hard work - especially at peak times. You have to be prepared to sacrifice playing the game in order to benefit the community. All the staff members undertake this sacrifice without second thought, and you need to be prepared to do the same. This doesn't mean you're not allowed to have fun on the server, but being a staff member means your priorities should be doing your best to help the community.

2) Meeting the requirements

The requirements are there for a very good reason. This is not to say that if you don't meet the requirements then we think that you will be an inadequate staff member. However, generally speaking, we would like applicants to meet the requirements as this ensures that they have the maturity, experience and dedication to become part of our staff team. Personally, I would advise not applying unless you meet the requirements. If you don't meet the requirements and you're truly dedicated to becoming a staff member on TheSplash, then reflecting on yourself and working on your application until you do meet the requirements is the best way to go!

3) Reflecting on your past behaviour

If you have any past punishments, this does not necessarily mean that you can't apply for staff. Each applicant is considered on a case-by-case basis. If you have matured since your punishment, and we can see evidence of this in game, then by no means will this hinder your application. Being a staff member means having a degree of maturity. You don't have to be an emotionless robot, in fact enjoying playing on the server does all the more to help your application. However, a player who has always stuck to the rules is one that we would be very happy with welcoming onto the staff team.

1) How to write a good application

I'm not going to go into too much detail on this, as your application is your own. Everyone is different and you'll already have an idea of what you want to write for the answers. Here's a few general tips however, courtesy of @Twisst :)

a) Write a neat / detailed application
b) Think and respond to each answer thoughtfully (not just 1 to 2 sentences)
c) Check for grammar mistakes on your application
d) Show proof of staff experience (Which is required)

2) In-game behaviour

Remember, staff are always watching. Your in-game behaviour is always being monitored, which is why remaining active and acting in an appropriate manner during the application stage is crucial. Mini-modding is not advisable, you can certainly help players but be careful not to fall into the trap of acting as if you're a staff member.

3) What to do if your application gets denied

Your application may be denied for a multitude of reasons, the most common ones being not meeting the requirements and having a lack of detail. If you get denied, it's important to reflect on yourself and your application. We understand that a lot of people want to become a staff member, but you can still help out the community as a normal player! Remember, being friendly to new players and remaining active on the forums are just some of the ways you can help out and become an engaging member of the community. Having read this guide and reflected on your application, I would encourage you to apply next season. Take time with your application, and remember it's not a race to get your application in quickly!

Finally, best of luck to everyone applying!

Quick question, if you'd applied before but the responses you gave are still suitable for you in the future, can you just copy/paste an application that you've written before, or do you have to go through and answer each question again? (y'know, for efficiency, but i understand if you can't)
